Usually about $90 to $125 per assembly in the Denver metro. Here's what moves the number.

The short answer

A standard backflow test in the Denver metro usually costs about $90 to $125 per assembly, based on prices four local testers published in October 2026, with larger assemblies at $115 to $175. What changes the price

  • Assembly type and size. A residential PVB is quick. A large RPZ on a commercial building takes longer.
  • Access. An assembly in a below-ground vault or a confined space takes extra time and equipment.
  • Whether the water is on. A sprinkler system that's still winterized has to be turned on first. Doing the spring startup and the test in one visit saves a trip.
  • How many assemblies. Multiple devices at one property, or a portfolio of properties, usually costs less per device.
  • Filing fees. Some providers charge to file the report. Broomfield's BSI Online notice lists $14.95 per report, and Thornton says BSI charges its current price per report.
  • A failed test. Cleaning or rebuilding a check valve or relief valve is a repair, plus a retest.

The cost of skipping it

The test is the cheap part. Aurora Water adds a $1,000 civil penalty to the water bill once a test is 30 days past due, and $2,000 at 60 days. Denver Water charges a $250 non-refundable penalty after three unanswered notices. Most providers can suspend water service for an assembly that's never tested. Rules by provider →
