Thornton started in 1953 as the first fully planned community in Adams County, and those early neighborhoods off Washington Street and 88th are now about 70 years old. The newer tracts north of 136th have a different set of drain problems.
Older Thornton: roots in the sewer line
Homes from the 1950s through the 70s often have clay or cast-iron sewer laterals, with joints every few feet and decades-old trees above them. Roots find those joints, grow in, and catch everything that goes down the drain. Clearing the line with a root cutter gets you flowing again, but roots grow back through the same joints.
Newer Thornton: shared lines
In many townhome communities, several units share one main line, so a backup in your basement can start in a neighbor's unit. Who pays for the shared section depends on your HOA's documents, so check those or ask your HOA before scheduling.
It's probably the main line if
- Two or more fixtures back up at the same time
- The toilet gurgles when the washing machine drains
- Water comes up in the shower or floor drain when you flush
- The line clears, then backs up again within weeks
When another cleaning isn't the answer
If your main line needs clearing more than once a year, a damaged section is usually letting roots back in. We'll tell you straight instead of coming back every few months, so you can decide what makes sense.
What we clear
- Kitchen sink and disposal lines
- Tub, shower, and bathroom sink drains
- Toilets and floor drains
- Main sewer lines, with root cutting
